Candida is the author of the critically acclaimed Yacker – Australian Writers Talk About Their Work Series; two novels, Women and Horses and The Hidden; a prize-winning book of short stories, The Powerful Owl; and three children’s books, including Belinda the Ninja Ballerina, (illustrated by Mitch Vane).

Candida started her career in the theatre, and she brings a high level of energy and interaction to her workshops and talks for all ages.  An engaging speaker, Candida – whose interests also include photography and natural horsemanship – is adept at encouraging people’s creativity through their writing.

She believes writing (and life) should be joyful and fun.

Candida lives in Northern New South Wales and is available to travel.


DC Green

DC Green has won multiple awards, had thousands of articles published in over 50 countries and, as a surf journalist, has roamed the world’s greatest surf spots with Kelly Slater.

DC’s five funny fantasy books motivate even the most reluctant of readers.

Every year, he performs over 100 school shows around Australia.

DC’s school shows are interactive, informative, inspiring and feature the world’s worst rap! Packed with great writing tips, his hilarious performances have been hailed as ‘bizarre, egotistical, enthralling, funny and not to be missed’.

 


Paul Stafford

Paul StaffordPreferred audience: kindergarten-year 12, reluctant/disengaged boys in year 3-4

Paul specialises in writing workshops for Stage 3-4 reluctant/disengaged boys, with 15 years experience in schools across Australia. He is the author of comedy-horror series Horror High, non-fiction You’re History, Mate! and Ned Kelly's Helmet.

Paul’s writing workshops scaffold the creative process from A-Z using students’ ideas to write narratives, modeling & demystifying the process, and instilling in students a strong sense of creative confidence to own and develop their original ideas. The model is fun, easily replicated and inclusive, ensuring boys are no longer the hurdle to positive class involvement in writing.

Workshops in persuasive text & script writing (short films/school plays) are also available.


Wai Ping Chim

Preferred audience: children aged 6 to 10 and adults

Wai has written a number of books for young primary readers, including Chook Chook: Mei's Secret Pets and spent 18 months teaching English to children in Japan. Born in New York to immigrant parents who didn't speak much English, Wai is deeply interested in exploring other cultures and speaking to audiences young and old.

She has also spent over 5 years working in online marketing, across a range of digital technology and social media channels.

Wai can speak to young audiences about exploring other cultures as well as present age-appropriate writing exercises and workshops (eg 'Writing Action Sequences' and 'Introducing Onomatopoeia'). She can also speak to adult audiences on social media and online marketing, such as 'How to Promote Yourself Online'.


Melaina Faranda

Author, English teacher, and compulsive storyteller, Melaina Faranda has written 29 young adult and children’s books (published in Australia and internationally), worked in hundreds of schools, and has the almost supernatural ability of getting the most reading-averse kids to turn off their mobiles, totally engage and beg for her return.

A versatile speaker, Melaina can specifically tailor creative writing and self-editing workshops to your primary or secondary curriculum and staff development needs.

Popular workshops include 'How to Write a Story Without Having to Think', 'Making Bad Writing Better and Good Writing Great', 'Generating Great Stories for the HSC', 'Enrichment Writing', and 'Duelling with Dragons'.
