Leonie grew up in southern Arnhem Land in a mixed cultural environment. She is most interested in the places where cultures and languages meet.
Her books have won prestigious children’s book awards and been shortlisted for most of the major Australian awards. She loves fishing, gathering and gardening.
Leonie is a passionate supporter of Aboriginal people and demonstrates enormous respect for her neighbours within her writing. She is married, lives on a farm at Noonamah, has three sons and one grandson.
Her award-winning books include: the picture book Look See, Look at Me, the novel The Devil You Know, and the children’s book The Barrumbi Kids.
